‘…and then I found 5 dollars!’

Have you ever been in the middle of a story just to notice the person you are talking to isn’t even listening? Or mid-joke, you’re laughing and can hardly finish, and no one else has even cracked a smile? Or you get tongue tied – or worse, say I love you to the wrong person over the phone? Acca-awkward! We have all experienced that moment of embarrassment, where you realize your story is boring, you’re just not telling the joke right, or you’re just blubbering… and your voice trails off…..

I’ve never been good at story telling. I’m literally THE worst at telling jokes. I forget the punch line, say it too soon, or just start laughing too hard to finish. I heard once that when you’re in the horrible story-telling scenario, you should just end the story with ‘and then I found 5 dollars!’ I mean, who doesn’t like finding – or hearing about – that forgotten 5 bucks you left in your jeans pocket, which probably took you a good six weeks to wash (be honest, who washes jeans on the regular?) It makes any story a little more exciting – or at least provides a quick ending to the agony! For the other issues, just walk away. Slowly. There’s no coming back from those – unless you really do love Jake from State Farm.

I’m also one of the clumsiest people you could ever meet. My husband jokes that one of my talents is stubbing my toe on air. I wasn’t destined to be a ballerina, that’s for sure! Most days, I feel like I drop everything I touch, I hurt myself one way or another, or just a series of silly things happen. Like the time I went to eat a biscuit, and I find out it’s moldy after taking a bite. Naturally, I go to brush my teeth. I feel something in my teeth, and there were ANTS. Why do these things happen!? Am I the only one? Please share your stories so I don’t feel like the only one these things happen to!

Here is the place for awkward me to write my thoughts and share my experiences as I go through life trying to be the best Christian I can be. The best Christian wife, mom, sister, daughter, friend, co-worker, employee, and stranger. Ungraceful me, covered in Grace. Any if my stories seem boring, or if you find my written skills lacking as much as my verbal ones, just skip my two cents and go straight to the 5 dollars at the end!
