Move

I hope this year has started off well for everyone! It’s hard to believe we are already three weeks into the new year. Last year, I shared my word for the year to be ‘uncomfortable.’ Change is sometimes uncomfortable but necessary, and last year definitely brought about some major changes. These changes brought this year’s word to be “MOVE.“. For 2022, I’m looking at four ways to move:

1) Move – actually moving! In 2020, I shared the blog about the Lord sustaining me while waiting for a prayer to answered. I had been praying for a new home, but with all that was going on in the world, it felt like the answer would still be ‘not yet’. In 2021, the answer to that prayer started to come to pass in the very place God had led me to some time ago. We stepped outside our comfort zone and sold our home while our new home was starting to be built. It is still in the works, but we look forward to moving into our new home soon.

2. Move forward – looking ahead and not to the side. When our eyes are diverted, we cannot make much forward progress. Last year, I found myself looking around instead of staying focused on what God had for me. When we look at others, it’s easy to start comparing. We can start to wonder why we aren’t “there” yet. Comparing ourselves to others can lead to doubt, fear, pride, lost joy, dashed hope, and so much else that isn’t from the Lord. We start to question ourselves and what the Lord has promised. This year, I am aiming to keep my eyes forward at what God has in front for ME and no one else. If I seek Him first, and His kingdom, then all the rest will come into place according to HIS will and not my own.

3. Move past – not get stuck on failures. I tend to fixate on the past, my mistakes, and the things that have gone wrong. When we focus on the negative things around us though, they start to envelop us. When Peter was walking on the water, once He took his eyes off Jesus, he started to sink. Like Peter, I need to stop looking at the waves and keep my gaze on Christ. This year, I want to push past the past and look for the victories of today.

4. Move out of the way – move, so He can move. I pray that I move out of the way and allow God to move in my life. May I be more sensitive to His movement in my life and step aside, so that He can lead me in the direction He has planned.

I’d love to hear if anyone else has a word for the year, or if you have another way you hope to move in 2022. I pray everyone has a blessed and happy New Year, and that we all be moved by the Lord each day, allowing His Spirit to move within us and through us.
