This is the Day!

Today is just not my day! I’m sure we’ve all said something similar one time or another. I’ve shared before that it seems like I manage to do something silly, or have something silly happen to me, every single day… but then there are the days where it feels like a series of misfortunate events is happening, and I’m just waiting for the day to come to an end.

Just yesterday I was having ‘one of those days.’ Baby girl woke up on the wrong side of the rock n play and was grumpy from the get-go. She had her moments of smiles and giggles, but she wasn’t letting that crankiness go all the way. We muddled through the day and finally made it to lunchtime. She was playing in her excersaucer while I tried to find something to eat. In the process, I moved an open packet of taco sauce in the fridge and managed to get it all over the place. In the process of trying to clean that up, I got it on the floor and stepped in it. I start hobbling around the kitchen, trying to finish cleaning up my mess – and now my foot – without tracking it even further.

I finally was able to down and eat lunch, and then started playing with baby girl. We’re sitting in the floor and I feel something wet on my hand. You guessed it… I got a handful of poop! It had gone through her onesie and onto my pants. I took a deep breath and headed to the changing table. She loves to wiggle around while getting a changed (changing a baby should be an Olympic sport!), so naturally, she gets her hand in it and starts flinging it all over the place. Her feet then get in on the action and start smearing it all around. By the time all was said and done, there was poop all over the place and baths (yes two, I had to draw a second one after she decided to tinkle in the first) were in order.

It was a long work day, but we made it through! I clocked out and she went down for a nap, so I started dinner and cleaned up a bit. Once nap time is over, she just wants to be held. It takes her a little time to fully wake up after a nap. Silly and impatient me thought I’d try to do a few things while holding her. Not my greatest idea. I tried opening a can of tomato sauce, only to have it fall off and spill all over the counter. I had to be patient, walk away, and wait a few minutes. Then I was able to sit her down and clean my second kitchen mess of the day up.

While yesterday had its challenges and made for a tiresome day, the Bible says:

‘This is the day the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.’ –Psalm 118:24

While it’s easy to get wrapped up in the day-to-day problems, I have to remind myself to try and see the positives. The Bible didn’t say ‘Today is a good day, let’s rejoice!’ We need to be glad in each and every day.

This isn’t always easy, especially since today has started off like Groundhog Day (featuring more poop – even the dog joined in this time). Some days are tougher than others; however, there are still reasons to rejoice. Taking a look back, I see baby girl woke up. I had food in the fridge to eat. Baby girl is healthy and getting used to eating solid foods…and thankfully loves bath time. I have a job – and get to work from home and be with my baby girl! I had time to start dinner and was able to clean up my mess… eventually. God knows I could stand to learn a little patience! So whether today is good or perhaps not the best of days, this is still the day that the Lord has made… let’s rejoice!
